I blogged a little while back about one of our team (Kelly Frew) taking part in the London Marathon, and my how time has flown, it’s only 10 days away now! So for the final time here is our plea, Kelly is running to raise money for the Cardiomyopathy Association. Cardiomyopathy, which literally means “heart [...]

London Marathon Sponsorship

Posted by Paul Smith on Friday, February 5th, 2010

No, i’m not silly enough to dig out my running shoes and take on 26 1/2 gruelling miles of London’s streets along with a whole bunch of other like minded crazy people. That said, one of our own Miss Kelly Frew has decided that this is the year she will be taking on the challenge [...]

Or not in the case of this searcher who found their way onto our Gifts UK website with a cracker of a search term (click for larger image): It’s not been a bad year for the GGUK site. We built the site in late November 2008 and have left it virtually untouched until October 2009 [...]

Use RSS Feeds To Promote Your Blog

Posted by Paul Smith on Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I’ve had a couple of meetings over the last month where the subject has turned to RSS feeds and it’s amazing the number of times I’ve heard people say “well we’ve got an RSS feed, but we don’t know if anyone uses it”.

So I’m going to over the next couple of weeks make a few posts with practical tips about how to use your RSS feeds to help promote your blogs / websites.

To kick things off we’ll look at RSS Submission sites (aggregators) which will drive a little additional traffic but help quite a lot with the inbound links to your site, increasing your SEO exposure. The concept is simple, an aggregator takes a lot of feeds, categorises the information and every time you make a post, the new post will appear on the aggregator site with a link back to yours..  Simples.

From an SEO perspective this means you will get links pointing to your inner pages (which isn’t always easy to achieve) and you’ll get a new link every time you make a post, without you having to do anything else.

There are literally thousands of RSS directories / aggregators you can submit to, as usual google is your friend: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&hs=qbr&q=rss+feed+directories+submission&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

Below I’ll list favourites with an example link going to my profile for our site Gifts Guide UK to show you exactly how each site will list your posts. With each site simply navigate your way to the homepage, sign up if necessary and submit your own feed URL:
