London Marathon Sponsorship

No, i’m not silly enough to dig out my running shoes and take on 26 1/2 gruelling miles of London’s streets along with a whole bunch of other like minded crazy people. That said, one of our own Miss Kelly Frew has decided that this is the year she will be taking on the challenge [...]

Or not in the case of this searcher who found their way onto our Gifts UK website with a cracker of a search term (click for larger image):

And The One Millionth English Word Is …

Posted by Paul Smith on Friday, June 12th, 2009

Doo Do Do Doo Dooo Dooooo !!!     …         Web 2.0

For the last few months boffins have been somewhat excited (bless them) about what word will take pride of place as the English languages official one millionth word.

According to Global Language Monitor, a Texas-based global language tracker,  the word Web 2.0 was officially unveiled this week as the one millionth word.

It looks like Internet jargon was always going to become the 1 millionth word however with the other words that were added but just missing out on being the one millionth word being: noob, which means a newbie in a community; defriending, which means to cut off a social networking friend; sexting, which means sending email or texts with sexual content; and cloud computing, where users access services over the Internet.

The word which means “next generation of the web” and is often used when discussing social networks like Twitter, Myspace, etc however poses me a couple of issues…

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m pleased such a forward thinking word has become apart of such a landmark occasion, but frankly is web 2.0 one word? Surely if it was one word it would be web2.0 and if you want to be really anal about it - “Web two point zero”  is three or four words (depending upon whether you count the point) is it not?

I feel a bit conned if I’m honest, but as always, I’ll shut up now ….
